Local Recycling Drive for the Environment

The C.L.O.P.E. project (Collecte Locale Organisée Pour l’Environnement) is pleased to invite you to a community walk taking place thisSunday, April 14, at 2:00 p.m., starting at the Charles de Gaulle Esplanade in Montpellier.

The goal of this walk is to collect as many cigarette butts as possible that are littering the streets of our cities and, ultimately, polluting green spaces and waterways. Once the cleanup in the historic center of Montpellier is complete, the cigarette butts will be sent to the “MéGo!” recycling plant in Brittany, with which we have partnered.

This project was conceived by six third-year political science undergraduates. The primary goal of the project was to raise awareness among faculty and students at the Faculty of Law and Political Science in Montpellier regarding the issue of cigarette butt recycling.

To address the issue of cigarette butts being discarded on campus, a decision was made in collaboration with the administrative staff and Dean Clamour to install ashtrays through the same company, “MéGo!”.

The core of this project now goes even further.

The C.L.O.P.E. project is becoming a nonprofit organization and aims to put an end to cigarette butts being littered throughout the city of Montpellier, which inevitably end up in the sewers, waterways, and our green spaces.

This eco-friendly walk is therefore just the first step in a larger endeavor, as C.L.O.P.E. plans to continue expanding and carrying out its initiatives in collaboration with the many organizations and projects already working to promote environmental sustainability and social responsibility in Montpellier.

We would be delighted to welcome you on Sunday afternoon to join you on this walk, which we hope will help reduce the environmental impact of such a small item that has become a common sight on the streets of our city.

See you on April 14 at 2:00 p.m. on the Charles de Gaulle Esplanade—bring your gloves and bags for a 90-minute cleanup.
