Summary:

Comparative study between France and England concerning policies for caring for the elderly Caring for the elderly remains an aspect of life that can affect every member of our societies. The current response is often called into question, and the various economic and humanist policies can be political choices relating to the care of dependent persons are among the causes of organizational dysfunction. A comparison of the guidelines concerning the dependency of older adults in France and England confirms the existence of two similar, but also very different, models. These two countries, so close and yet so far apart, share a history of developing solutions for supporting the elderly population. These different proposals are compared and their impact taken into account in identifying the care of the individual within the community. History, cultures, societal attitudes towards solidarity, the place of the elderly, and economic and legislative perspectives are among the factors that influence the care offerings available today. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the flaws in the system, making it easier to focus on the current situation experienced by residents, who are the first to be affected and often the last to be able to express themselves or be heard. The range of national and institutional policies is being identified to help us understand the issues at stake and question the need to develop a new policy focused on people living in French institutions or English care homes.

Keywords: policies, care, aging people, reception, establishment, comparison.
