Thesis project

Title: Pregnancy and Its Risks: A Sociological Study of Changing Practices in Obstetrics.

In France, throughout the 19th century, the government established regulations governing midwifery training and established this medical profession as an indispensable public health provider for women and newborns. Midwives at the beginning of the 21st century, whose skills continue to expand, are now positioned as primary care providers, responsible for the reproductive health of healthy women. Prevention remains a major part of their practice.

In a context where there is a growing emphasis on the proliferation of risks and risk factors, whether environmental or behavioral, this research aims to study midwives' practices in terms of prevention, how these professionals perceive risks, and to what extent prejudices about their patients' social background or their own social environment influence their practices.

Methods and means: Qualitative study (ethnographic observation and semi-structured interviews with midwives from different practice settings).
