Thesis proposal

I wish to examine the ways in which young inmates access education and the impact of this access on their criminal trajectories and, indirectly, on efforts to prevent juvenile recidivism: the study will focus on closed educational centers (CEFs), juvenile correctional facilities (EPMs), and juvenile wings in local jails. This will involve an analysis of the relevant legislation, supplemented in particular by interviews with young inmates, teachers working in these detention facilities, and juvenile court judges. Finally, a comparison with the systems in other European countries could be considered.
