Thesis project

Abstract: The aim of this thesis research was to contribute to an understanding of the transformation of the French education system and the State, by apprehending the specific features of the territories in which it is deployed, and the differentiated treatment of populations through it. The aim of this study was to examine, through the narrow lens of one département, the issues raised by a city-wide "mixité" scheme launched in 2016. The study was carried out with various local authorities and stakeholder groups involved in the school re-sectorization process, the stated aim of which is to "gain in diversity". Ultimately, the dynamics sedimenting the territory are rooted in logics of categorization and spatialized treatment of populations.
