Thesis Proposal

Title: Youth Participation in the Democratic Debate: A Comparative Study of Youth Councils in France and Canada.

Our research focuses on the issue of youth participation in public institutions, based on a comparative study of youth councils in France and Canada. Against a backdrop of political disengagement among citizens and rising social unrest, our aim is to examine the new initiatives undertaken by French and Canadian policymakers to include young people in the democratic debate, as well as how these initiatives play out in practice.
We will conduct our research using a qualitative method, through interviews with young people, civil servants, and politicians involved in these youth councils. This approach will be enriched by an in-depth study of the national dynamics of participation in both countries, by mapping the geographic distribution of youth councils and then analyzing the sociological profiles of the selected young participants.
