Thesis Proposal

Title: Youth Participation in the Democratic Debate: A Comparative Study of Youth Councils in France and Canada.

Our research focuses on the issue of youth participation in public institutions, based on a comparative study of youth councils in France and Canada. Against a backdrop of political disengagement among citizens and rising social unrest, our aim is to examine the new initiatives undertaken by French and Canadian policymakers to include young people in the democratic debate, as well as how these initiatives play out in practice.
We will conduct our research using a qualitative methodology, through interviews with young people, civil servants, and policymakers involved in these youth councils. This approach will be supplemented by an in-depth study of the national dynamics of participation in both countries, involving the creation of a geographic network of youth councils followed by an analysis of the sociological profiles of the selected young participants.
