Comparative socio-history of disciplinary institutionalization policies in higher education and research

Summary:

The SCPID-ESR project proposes to reconstitute the genesis of disciplinary institutionalization in the social sciences on a comparative basis, by carrying out an unprecedented work of exploitation of unexplored documentation. Drawing on the lessons of previous research, which identified the gaps to be filled, the project aims to shed original light on the ways in which, based on the French and Italian cases, new knowledge emerged in the space of academic disciplines within higher education and research organizations. The aim is to understand the factors that facilitate and limit the structuring of the social sciences on a European scale, by looking not only at the internal logic of those who carry and embody a discipline, but also at the external institutional players (ministries, research organizations) who decide to give greater or lesser prominence to emerging and subsequently consolidated knowledge.
