A Comparative Social History of Policies on Disciplinary Institutionalization in Higher Education and Research
Summary:
The SCPID-ESR project aims to reconstruct the origins of the disciplinary institutionalization of the social sciences from a comparative perspective by conducting groundbreaking research using previously unexamined sources. Building on previous research that has clearly identified gaps to be filled, the project aims to shed new light on the ways in which, based on the French and Italian cases, new knowledge emerged within the realm of academic disciplines in higher education and research institutions. In doing so, the goal is to understand the factors facilitating and limiting the structuring of the social sciences at the European level, not by adopting the internal logic of those who champion and embody a discipline, but by focusing, from an external perspective, on external institutional actors (ministries, research organizations) who decide to allocate a greater or lesser degree of space to emerging knowledge that is subsequently consolidated.
