NEWREGIO
The NEWREGIO project aims to understand the transformations of democratic political systems in Europe through the neglected dimension of territorial recompositions induced by the unprecedented resurgence of regional nationalism in Corsica and Sardinia. These cases challenge the literature in two ways: 1° in contrast to the most widely studied cases, which emanate from prosperous regions, they offer counter-intuitive occurrences of mobilizations that have long been a minority or even marginal, and which are now being brought to power from poor, dependent regions; 2° despite statutes organizing the more advanced decentralization usually used to respond to such demands, these territories are claiming new forms of reinforced autonomy or even independence. The project aims to recontextualize the cycles of mobilization and their institutional frameworks, in order to perceive the innovation inherent in contemporary mobilization or the recycling of old frameworks. It then sets out to characterize the specific ideological offer based on the cultural, economic and politico-administrative dimensions - including an environmental component - specific to these political actors, and to analyze the sociological driving forces behind their success in the public arena and their institutional impact.
